The way movies work with people/companies today is they give you what they have and nothing else and try to push so much from their music into the movie.
A music supervisor has a quite different role than just clearing music for the movie or making music. together with the instructor, the composer and the sound editor he is the one coordinating but also challenging the music chosen and try to suggest different music than was though of to start with.
Often you choose music from what you know of, or like. The music supervisors should have an access supply if music knowledge, knowledge of colors/themes and what genres strengthen the scene, and together with the composer build up with the main score to these scenes. The tone expert will participate in explaining if it’s possible to make the music come out of the room or behind the room or "from a radio". It’s a music supervisor’s job to try to steer the ship to harbor so the instructor’s vision for the movie is supplemented by the music choices.
In Denmark there is only 2 people that can do this. Nedless to say I am one of them
